Boyle Charity Duathlon 6th May

Welcome to the third Boyle Charity Duathlon. Following on from the success of last years event we intend 2012 to be bigger and better. Lough Key Forest Park is an ideal location for multi-sport events with its beautiful scenery and full compliment of amenities. So if your an athlete looking to get your race season off to an early start or your thinking about trying a duathlon for the first time then this is the event for you!

The Charity you will be supporting is "The Ciara Grehan Foundation" in association with Ability West.

Run routes - 5km - 2.5km course in the scenic and tranquil Forest Park.
Cycle route - 20km course exiting Forest Park at Ardcarne junction onto the N4 with a turnaround 1km from Carrick on Shannon and returning back along the N4 to Forest Park via the Rathdiven entrance.
Registration fee includes an event t-shirt for all competitors as well as prizes and trophys, spot prizes also.
Why not make this event a family day out as bouncy castles, childrens obstacle course, face painting and other activities will be taking place in conjunction with the duathlon.
The normal Forest Park 4 euro parking fee will not apply.

Bike Maintenance Course,

Starts Tuesday 31st Jan at 8pm - 9.30pm
Cost €50 for 7 weeks.

Comprehensive  maintenance course on all types of bicycles covering routine safety checks, fault finding, puncture repair and developing an understanding of bike components (drivetrain, brakes, wheels etc)
Be prepared for the summer ahead by carrying out your own maintenance thus avoiding possible breakdowns and expensive repair costs.

Sunday Cycle 22nd of January




The following routes have been selected for the Sunday spin and will be in place for 2/3 weeks so you can monitor your progress. Start point St Josephs Boys National School Abbeytown 9.30am
Beginners:
Boyle to Carrick on Shannon 25km approx or Loops on to main N4 heading in the Sligo direction, turning left back into Boyle in the direction of Boyle Celtic and back onto the N4 again. These loops are 7km so route will depend on the group arriving on the day.

Intermediate:
Leaving the same start point to the Ardcarne turnoff, through knockvicar following the road around to the right ( anyone that wishes to cut the route short can turn off here and head to the Moorings-Corrigeenroe across the Rock of Doon back to Boyle) to keadue - Ballyfarnon-kilmactranny- left at Corrigeenroe in the back route to lough Key and a stop off at the cofffee dock at the activity centre for a cuppa and cake and the advanced, beginners can also stop for a coffee on the way back too as the groups will be back in similar time.
Advanced: To determine their own route.

We had great numbers out the last two weeks so let’s keep it up so pass on the word to anyone who wishes to join us for the first time and i would also encourage all members to come and join us as there will be a group for all abilities. See everyone Sunday!

Rosses Point Duathlon March 10th

SligoTriathlon Club are starting off the club racing season with the Rosses Point Duathlon on Saturday 10th March at 12pm.

RaceDetails:
Competitors can register for the race on the Triathlon Ireland website http://www.triathlonireland.com/. Entry will cost €20. As usual, a one day licence (€10) or full membership (€53) of triathlon Ireland will be required to compete.

On the day sign on will take place in the Yacht Club from 9am-11am. Race briefing will take place at 11.30am. Race start 12.00pm. Showers & refreshments will be available in the Yacht Club after the event. Entry will include a customary technical t-shirt.


Final Club kit Fitting Session

The final fitting session for the new club kit will take place in Aidan and Rays Menswear Patrick Street Boyle on Saturday 21st at 2.00pm till 3.30pm. This will be the last  last chance to try on the gear so if any mates or family are still sitting on the fence please encourage them to come in and try on the samples and see what they think.

Curlieu Wheelers are delighted to inform all present and future members that a fitting session for the new club kit will take place in Aidan and Rays Menswear shop on Patrick Street Boyle at 2.00pm till 3.30pm on Saturday the 14th of January. A full size range of bib shorts, jerseys (Approx €70 but can also be ordered separately) and Cycling jacket (approx €55) will be available to try on.
The price is approximate at this stage and subject to change. I would encourage all members to please pass this on to family and friends who may be thinking of joining the club later this year as we need a minimum purchase order to keep the cost of the gear as low as possible.
Please also remember if you are purchasing the kit without the jacket take into consideration the Irish weather we have, therfore the jacket is a vital part of our kit (Unless you are road racing )
Present members can also pay the 2012 membership fees on Saturday

Weekly Spins to return Tuesday the 3rd and Thursday the 5th of January

Happy New Year everyone from all at The Curlieu Wheelers Cycling Club.
We are looking forward to a great 2012 where we hope to have the club strip for the start of the racing season and with some club members already training hard for etape the highest mountain stage of the tour de France. 2012 looks to be set to a great year for the club.
The new years eve spin was a great one to end the year with 13 riders out in 2 groups. Well done to all who came out.

The weekly spins are set to return this week. Tuesday the 3rd and Thursday the 5th of Jan at 7pm from St.Josephs Boys National School Abbeytown. We will be looping around by the Abbey out by Results Gym and down Maple Drive. This route is well lit up but front and back lights, helmets and hi-vis tops are compulsory. The Sunday spins will continue to run at 9.30am from the boys national school also. (Please be aware of the rules of the road at all times). See every one there!!
