Updates:

 Charity Swim:
This Saturday June 2nd from 11 to 3 there will be a charity swim in Murray's Bay beside Moonriver, members of the Lough Key Triathlon Club and others are swimming non-stop for 4 hours to help raise money for LauraLynn House, Childrern's Hospice.
Anyone interested in swimming or shaking a bucket should contact donal.kennedy@yahoo.com to organise a time.


Tuesday Evening Spins continue  at 7.00pm from St Josephs Boys National School.
Sunday Morning: Same start point as Tuesday evening
9.30 am Advanced and Intermediate 11.00am (Sunday 3rd Social Spin as above, June 10th routes to follow on facebook and blog nearer to the time)
All levels of fitness are welcome.


The Sligo Summer Cycling League will continue on Wednesday June 6th at Carraroe, Sligo

Club Updates 17/5/2012

Weekly Spins continue every Tuesday evening from St.Josephs Boys National School Abbeytown Boyle at 7pm. All abilities welcome.
Sunday Spin 9.30am Advanced and 11.00am intermediate and beginners same start point as Tuesday evening.
Training time trials continue Thursday evening 17th and 24th of May distance 10km at 7.00pm at the Doon turn off on the main N4 Sligo direction (at East Brothers). Thanks very much to all members who have helped out at these events and especially Seamus Gallagher who has been time keeping every Tursday. All members are welcome  and all abilities catered for so if you haven’t been to one already why not come out this week and give it a try. It’s a great way to track your progress or if you have any questions email curlieuwheelerscc@gmail.com
Training  continues  for the 5 members who will be completing the L’Etape Tour in July. Various fundraisers will be  held between now and July so keep an eye out for local events . Well done  all members who are completing challenging training camps in Spain and France to ensure they are ready for July.

Fundraising Table Quiz
In The Moylurg Inn
On Friday 18th  of May @ 9pm
 In aid of Cancer Care West – Leukaemia Support Fund

On July 14th next, 5 members of the Curlieu Wheelers Cycling Club will be leaving the “Curlews” behind, and heading for the Pyrenees to take part in L’Etape du Tour 2012. They will be completing a 200km stage of the Tour De France, which includes 5 Category climbs, in one day. Various fundraising events, including the table quiz mentioned above, will be held between now and July, and all funds raised will be donated to the Cancer Care West – Leukaemia Support Fund. So please spread the word and come along to support a very worthy charity.

Tables of 4, 20 euro per table. Other events on the night too.

Sunday Spin 13th of May

Well done to all members who made it out to the spin this morning. 33km around Lough key instead of Lough Arrow due to the cross winds this morning and finished off well with a coffee stop in Lough Key Activity Centre. Let’s keep that spin going once a month where everyone goes in the one group. See all Tuesday or Thursday Eve.

Sunday Spin 13th May

This Sunday the club spin will be a 37k loop around Lough Arrow for all cyclists. All members of all abilities are urged to come out and cycle as one group for this Sunday's spin, meeting at the boys school at 11.00am.
Anyone who wants to do a bit more could go out earlier and meet back at the school for 11.00am.

It would be nice if as many members as possible could turn up and cycle and have a chat with members they may not have met from the other groups.

Local Events 6th of May

Curlieu Wheelers were out in force over the Bank holiday weekend participating in different local events. There was a large present of Wheelers at the Local Duathlon In Lough Key Forest Park in association with the Ciara Grehan Foundation.  Well done to fellow club members David Gunning and Roy Kelly and Local Man Tommy Sherdian on the hard work , time and effort than went into the organisation of what has quickly become a hugely anticipated event in the North West.


Congratulations to all Curlieu Wheelers who won the following sections:
First Local Male: Martin Supple
Second Local: Peter Gavigan
Third Local: Alan Tiernan
All displaying fantastic times with Martin having a very strong bike time of 34.43. A great start to the season.
Second Overall Female: Sarah Neary with a great 5km run time of 19.21
Second  Local Junior: Conor Neary ; Definitely one to watch for the future.



Well done to Joan Gardner, Enda Madden, Aileen Madden,Damien Regan, Kiernan O Reilly, Margaret Hayden, Carmel Mc Golderick, Hanora Lavin especially people who have completed there first multi sport event.


Thanks to all marshals who came out from the club to give their time to help out.

Well done to all Wheelers (Ray Hannon, Kevin Mullen, Brian Mc  Mahon, Veronica o Connor, Gavin Brenann and Gary Daly) who completed the  Sligo An Post Tour . They also enjoyed  glorious sunshine  and ideal conditions for the Leisure cycle  covering distances of 60km / 100km/160km.

The Eire Og Summer Cycling League 9/5/2012

The Eire Og Summer Cycling League kicks off tonight; sign on is from 6pm at Carraroe.  Good luck to all racing!!

Eire Og Cycling Club will be holding a summer league series of races in Sligo this year. The league is open to cyclists from all cycling & triathlon clubs in Sligo and the surrounding areas. Riders must have a minimum of a club competition license in order to take part in the league, otherwise they will have to purchase a 1 day license.
The league will consist of 6 events with 5 to count towards the overall and points awarded for marshall duties.
Dates for the races are as follows:  venues will be listed shortly.  Carraroe, sign on from 6 - 6:45. Race start at 7. (More details on older blogs)

Training Time Trials Thursday 10th/5/2012

Training time trials will take place again this Thursday eve at 7.00pm sharp / same start point as last week from Doon Boyle (The turn off the main N4 for Doon Shore/ Corrigeenroe) Meeting point at the  Boys National School Abbeytown at 6.30pm to cycle out to start point and warm up. Can Time keeepers be there at 6.40pm for de-briefing. If you are cycling direct to the start point please give your self adequate time as training starts at 7pm sharp. Email Aaron at curlieuwheelerscc@gmail.com to get start times. Same distance as last week 8km and next week it will move to 10km. Great numbers out the last few weeks so lets keep that up.  See everyone Thursday!

Club Members,

Time Trials 3rd/May

Training time trials will continue this Thursday at 7pm sharp from the Horse on The main N4. 10km distance email curlieuwheelerscc@gmail.com or text Aaron if you are attending.
We had great numbers out last week so let’s keep it up and if you haven’t done a TT yet and you wish to ask some questions drop us an email.

Duathlon 6th/May

Lough key Forest Park at 12 noon. This is going to be a huge event this year with record entries for its 3rd annual year. So if you still haven’t registered do so by mid-week to avoid disappointment. Can i also Strongly urge people to come out and support this event if you are not involved please put your name forward to marshal. It’s only a couple of hours on Sunday morning and they are looking for more marshals contact David at 0868586225. This event is ran by fellow club members and it is essential to get as many marshals as we can to make this a safe event so if you have any family members or friends that may wish to marshal on the day please get in touch and they can cheer you on aswell.
We need to support support our local events ( Great night out in Dalys Sunday night after the event)

Eire OG 9th/May

Their summer league starts next Wed. Details are on the blog. Sure to be a good event well organised with safe routes planned.

Lough Allen Rehab Cycle:

Well done to all Curlieu Wheelers who took place in this event as there were tough conditions on the day with strong cross winds.

Try a Tri- Sunday May 20th

This is an event aimed at beginners to the sport of Triathlons and is a pool based swim of 10 lenghts, followed by a 14km cycle and then a 4km run.
Registration is through Aura Leitrim Leisure at a cost of 25 euros, which includes, insurance, refreshments, a commemorative t-shirt and a good fun challenge in a helpful, safe and supportive environment.
Why not make this your goal and take on the challenge !
Training for Try-a-Tri = Anybody interested in doing a free training session for the try-a-tri, to practice transitions, etc next Friday @ 7 from Aura then contact donal @

Club Gear:
In regards to the delivery we have been informed by the supplier that the delivery date has been pushed out to the end of May. I have been in regular contact though email and phone and this delay is out of  his control at this stage.
